Interactive Theatre Workshop and Call Out for Collaborators
Tuesday 25th January, 5:30-7:30 pm, Forest Hall.
An Interactive Theatre Workshop and Callout For Collaborators: Open Source Theatre Company wants to find some new people to discuss, play, learn, meet, act and think with.
We’re doing a project with This Collection and Tollcross Community Centre called Property and Theft this March: it’s an interactive theatre project about daily life in a decaying capitalist society. But we need some more collaborators for it.
So we thought we’d run a totally open and totally free workshop in interactive theatre in order to make some new friends. We’ll talk about some of the ideas behind interactive theatre, do some exercises, play some games, run around a bit, and plant the seeds of something new.
Come along if you’re interested in collaborating, or if you’re not sure but it sounds like you might be, or if you just want to explore the ideas of interactive theatre. You won’t be making a commitment: this is a way of meeting people and sharing ideas.
E-mail harry.lodestone@gmail.com if you’re planning to come or if you’re interested in the project but can’t come that day (e-mail us anyway: we want to hear from you)
and please forward this call-out to anyone you think might be interested.
Open Source Theatre is a loose collective specialising in interactive political theatre expeiments: we’ve performed at places like the Soho Theatre, London, the streets of Essex, the Byre Theatre, St Andrews, and the Forest, of course. For information about us and our projects, see http://opensourcetheatre.wordpress.com.
This is a short survey, only 10 questions! It will be used in funding applications, our business plan and in helping us secure a venue.

Inky Fingers Open Mic
Tuesday 25th January, in the Cafe.
Every fourth Tuesday of the month.
The Inky Fingers Open Mic takes place in the main room of the Forest every fourth Tuesday of the month - January 25th, from 8-11pm. It’s free to come and free for anyone to perform, regardless of style, experience, or identity. We want to hear from everybody. We want your poems, your rants, your ballads, your short stories, your diaries, your experimental texts, your heart, your mind, your body. We want the essay on your summer holidays you wrote when you were four, your adolescent haiku, and extracts from your eventually-to-be-completed epic fantasy quadrilogy. We want to hear your best new work as well. And we want people to care about the way words are performed.
By felicitous coincidence, the regular Inky Fingers Open Mic slot falls on Burns Night this year, so we’re claiming that prestigious slot to throw the stage open to your performances. we want to hear from the Burnses and the McGonagalls, we want to hear from everyone who loves words. The theme for the night is “Second Degree Burns”; you can choose to write something to that theme, or to celebrate Burns Night by responding in some way to the Scottish writing’s grand traditions, or you can ignore the theme entirely, which is well in keeping with the Inky Fingers way.
Our feature performers this month are Kirsti Wishart and Kevin Cadwallender. Kirsti lives next to a graveyard and tells beautiful and funny stories about Edinburgh and more; Kevin is a Yakker poet and jack-of-many-trades, whose sharp and popular work has appeared in just about every medium you can think of.
Open Mic slots are five minutes long; e-mail inkyfingersedinburgh AT gmail DOT com to sign up and be sure of a slot, and check http://inkyfingersedinburgh.wordpress.com for more details.
Qi Gong Workshop
Every Tuesday and Thursday 10-12am
In the Forest Hall
Qi Gong (or Chi Kung), pronounced chee gong, is the name given to a variety of exercises that derive their existence from millennia of human enquiry. Claiming to benefit physical, mental and spiritual health, one may begin to understand the essence of Qi Gong by considering the trinity of body, breath and mind. However, Qi Gong is not intended as an intellectual exercise. It is through direct experience that one attains knowledge of Qi Gong.

The Inky Fingers READ-easy Writers’ Group
Thursday 13th January, 6-9pm
FREE (like it should be)
We’ve set up the READeasy Writers’ Group to be a safe and encouraging space for writers to meet up, hear their words read, and get constructive critical feedback. The third open session is at the Forest, Bristo Place, 6 – 9pm, Thursday 13th January.
It’s open to writers of any style, experience, identity and genre — but places each month are limited. To secure a slot, e-mail inkyfingersedinburgh AT gmail DOT com in advance with your name and a piece of your writing attached — and then just come along on the night with cake and a ready mind. See the Writers’ Group page (https://inkyfingersedinburgh.wordpress.com/) for full instructions (including length limits).
Some things people have said about the group:
“I have always wanted to attend a group like this to share and get feedback on my work. However, I was always too nervous to share my work with so many other writers at one time. The Inky Fingers method is very good because it allows you to share your work anonymously, while still receiving feedback. I found it to be an excellent experience with lots of good discussion amongst a very nice bunch of people.”
